With the increase in e-commerce and the need for warehouse space and distribution centers, the Chicagoland area has seen an explosion of industrial development. With increased industrial development comes the need for quality design of industrial buildings. Communities should not settle for bland "boxes" of pre-cast concrete buildings, sites that lack landscaping, and aesthetically unattractive truck dock areas. While industrial sites need to be functional, they also need to fit into the design context of the community and reflect the building tenant's brand/identity. The Municipal Design Review Network (MDRN) would like to provide a topical panel presentation on this subject, with a moderator from MDRN's advisory committee presenting introductory information on the topic. From there, the session participants will hear from three speakers: a municipal planner to discuss industrial projects in their community; an architect who has worked on industrial building projects in the Chicagoland area; and a developer who has experience working an industrial development projects in the region. All three speakers will bring their expertise to the table, and will provide applicable examples on quality industrial development from an architectural and site planning perspective.
