Panel discussion on rural economic development strategies and unconventional partnerships for job creation. Panelists include a pastor, a business owner, a county economic developer and a university-based economic development planner. The panel will discuss best practices and lessons-learned from impactful projects conducted by NCGrowth with businesses and local governments in rural and economically distressed places in North Carolina.
By the end of this session participants will have a deeper understanding of tools for addressing rural economic development beyond the traditional 'buffalo hunting' approach of big-business recruitment. Strategies discussed will include public-private partnerships, anchor-institution based economic development, economic impact analysis, business retention and expansion, industrial incubators, and small business support services. The session will be interactive and encourage discussion between panelists and participants. The panel will be led by NCGrowth, an EDA University Center dedicated to helping businesses create good jobs and communities create sustainable and equitable opportunities for their people through economic development and research.
