Overview

This session will discuss the need for agencies and organizations to have defined policies and procedures for addressing public involvement. The NCDOT recently developed an updated public involvement manual that provides guidance and recommendations for public involvement activities. This session will explore the process used by NCDOT to develop their new manual and discuss the application of innovative practices.

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

• Appreciate the lessons learned from the process that NCDOT followed in the development of their Public Involvement Manual

• Understand how to develop a public involvement manual for their agency or organization

• Address emerging topics and trends in public involvement, specifically related to innovative and practicable applications of public involvement tools
