Overview

This session will discuss how the city of Cleveland is seeking to capitalize on a roadway network with excess capacity and improve bikability and connectivity through the innovative development of Midway Cycle Tracks. The plans vision is to create a network of midway cycle track facilities (a type of separated bicycle facility) to promote healthy living, enhance bicycle network connectivity, support equitable modal choice, and ensure sustainable bicycling opportunities which will promote economic development; social cohesion and placemaking throughout Cleveland. The session will discuss how Cleveland developed the Midway Cycle Track concept as a means of addressing the operational and safety challenges associated with the more standard cycle tracks that run alongside the cartway; the right and left hook threat is eliminated.
