Overview

The Role of MPOs in Asset Management Implementation

Participants will hear from FHWA and FTA regarding current rules and ongoing activities as it relates to asset management. Asset management practitioners from MPO, transit, and highway agencies will discuss their experiences with asset management implementation including: challenges, opportunities, and best practices for MPOS to apply asset management principles to their planning practices, and support implementation of asset management by their member agencies. Following the presentations, participants will complete an exercise to apply asset management principals to a realistic MPO scenario. The workshop will conclude with participants identifying research, guidance, tools or other products that could be developed to support MPOs in their efforts to implement asset management in their own processes, and those of their member agencies. The results will be used to support a workshop at the Transportation Research Board (TRB) annual meeting (January, 2018) to identify research needs in support of MPOs adoption of asset management.
