Funding Constraints and Site Specifications—Radius Brewing Company

Topic/Learning Outcome:  In Emporia’s quest to continue to strengthen their downtown, planning mechanisms highlighted the need for a restaurant/brewery. Through alternative financing, the owners of Radius Brewing were able to take their passions for food and beer and turn them into a thriving business.  However, finding a building in downtown suitable to meet the needs of a brewery brought with it its own challenges. The building selection process for adaptive reuse focused on a combination of infrastructure needs and traffic patterns. Casey will discuss the funding mechanisms utilized and Jeremy will discuss his perspective on the process, and what we as planners or zoning officials can do to help or hinder the process.
