AICP members will learn about flooding and flood risk, consequences of flooding with respect to infrastructure, public health, and natural resources, and codes, standards, and planning techniques to minimize damage from flooding.

Detailed design criteria for floodproofing, including wet (flood resistance) versus dry floodproofing (flood hardening), avoidance, and retrofit measures for existing structures will be discussed. A discussion on community based approaches for land planning with respect to floodplain management is included in the presentation.
