Explore the smart built environment with lessons from the past to technologies of today.  We will discuss how cities were built in the past and what we should take from the past to improve the present and what technologies can be used to improve the city scape design.  We will then explore the neighborhood level and how we can build smarter there using past technologies and incorporating the new technologies of today.  Finally we will discuss the built environment at the building level and how we can make new and existing buildings smarter.


Course Learning Objectives

1.     What does the smart built environment mean from buildings to city wide design?  Does the smart built environment have to use electronic technology or not?

2.     The smart built environment at the city scale.

3.     The Smart built environment at the campus or neighborhood level.

4.     The Smart Built environment at the building level.
