Overview

New research behavioral change techniques could unlock new, more effective ways to change transportation choices. Innovative research projects can assist practitioners in new techniques to target the right audience with messages that motivate and inspire action.

Jessica Roberts, of Alta Planning + Design will present findings from recent and in-progress research efforts that explore why people drive, and to identify possible "nudge" strategies to shift those trips to transit and active modes.
In 2018, Renata Frantum and PBOT’s Active Transportation division used the Stages of Change model to enhance their SmartTrips program and messaging. Frantum will discuss outcomes and lessons when program participants received specially designed emails that addressed their feelings towards active transportation.
