"This session will open with remarks from Secretary Trogdon on his vision related to transportation planning in NC, and specifically the benefits of regional long range transportation planning. The study of a regional (multi-county) CTP under development will be presented as a NC case study (Northwest Piedmont RPO). The roles and responsibilities, elements to be considered, technical approach, and anticipated products will be discussed for this innovative study. Finally, a presentation will be made on ‘Regional Planning Options’ which will address the current state of discussions related to regional planning in NC, and explore possible technical analysis methods and benefits of various components.
These presentations, and the open discussion, will provide a forum to explore the elements that may be addressed during regional long range transportation planning studies, and will highlight benefits, challenges, options and possible best practices."
"The N.C. Department of Transportation is conducting an update to its long-rangetransportation plan to help guide North Carolina’s future transportation investments. Called the N.C. Moves 2050 Plan, the document will provide a 30-year transportation blueprint that meets the needs of a dynamic state, characterized by differing regional priorities, while maintaining a focus on broader, statewide benefits. NCDOT is undergoing a comprehensive two-year study that includes identifying statewide transportation systems’ resources and needs. The study team will work with local governments to identify local transportation needs to ensure that North Carolina’s transportation systems keep people and freight moving safely and efficiently to support communities and enhance the state’s economy."
"This presentation will include a high level look at Aviation in North Carolina. Main topics we propose to cover include he state of aviation, the divison, STI funding, communication with stakeholders and planning, growing and sustaining aviation through system planning.
In compliance with federal PRIIA and FAST Act requirements, Dewberry is working with NCDOT to update the North Carolina State Rail Plan that was last issued in 2015. This plan is a comprehensive effort to determine the state’s passenger and freight rail needs over the next 25 years, and to identify projects that efficiently move people and goods while enhancing the state’s economy. The goals of the plan are to 1) set policy for freight and passenger rail transportation, 2) establish strategies to enhance rail service in the public interest, and 3) prioritize state and federal investments in a statewide rail system. Development of the State Rail Plan will utilize input from the railroads, industry, agriculture, government, and the public. This presentation will provide an overview of this effort, discuss the data collection and findings to date, and encourage attendee participation in the development of the updated plan.
