Urban forests play an important role in climate mediation and urban heat island mitigation through shading, transpiration and sequestration of atmospheric carbon dioxide. However, urbanization, fragmentation and climate change can alter growing conditions and the capacity of trees and forests to perform these vital ecosystem services. Dr. Reinmann will present his research aimed at quantifying the capacity of trees across the urban landscape to cool their surroundings.
