Creating Complete Streets: Introduction to Designing for Active Transportation

In this online course, AICP members will learn how recent trends in demographics, changing preferences, transportation costs, travel patterns, safety, and public health impact the need to plan and design transportation infrastructure for multiple types of users, incluidng people walking, biking, riding public transit, and driving. AICP members will also become familiar with terminologies and approaches related to multimodal transportation planning and design as well as be able to articulate the key differences between traditional transportation planning and design and a Complete Streets approach. This course will explore how a Complete Streets approach differs from a traditional approach in terms of modal priority, performance measurement, design vehicle, design speed, and more. This distance learning module includes an audio and visual presentation as well as intermittent practice quizzes and activities.
