8th Annual Preserving the American Dream Conference
Thursday, September 23, 2010, 7 p.m.
Saturday, September 25, 2010, 2 p.m. EDT
Orlando, FL, United States
The 8th Annual Preserving the American Dream Conference is the only national conference that presents a free-market approach to transportation and mobility, land use and homeownership, property rights and private enterprise and related issues. Policy experts will address all facets of growth management, including urban densities, impacts on the environment, housing and its proximity to work and other land uses, multi-modal transportation and others. The conference gives planners a chance to hear a different but important point-of-view on current growth management practices, including Smart Growth and New Urbanism. Speakers will assess the implications of Amendment 4/Hometown Democracy in Florida and its potential impact on other states. Experts will also break down the elements of the federal Livable Communities Act and its implications for metropolitan areas. AICP members will learn about the unintended consequences of planning regulations on housing affordability, personal mobility, and regional economies. The conference will also highlight the growing concern about the erosion of property rights within a culture of government planning. Planners will learn about market friendly alternatives aimed at accomplishing many of the goals outlined by advocates of Smart Growth such as compact development, increased densities and the sustainable use of resources and land. These include cost-effective transportation strategies that benefit regional economies and ways to improve suburbia as the preferred living pattern of most Americans.
