This event will provide an tour of the adaptive reuse properties in the small municipalitiy of Green Cove Springs. Adaptive reuse of properties has been key to the community's revitalization. The process of adaptive reuse will be discussed, as it is an effective way of reducing urban sprawl and environmental impact. Through adaptive reuse old, unoccupied buildings can become suitable sites for many different types of use.
This tour will include a narrated walking tour of downtown Green Cove Springs and a visit to Spring Park, which is undergoing a million dollar renovation. There will be a visit to Alternative Energy Technologies(AET), the country's largest solar thermal manufacturer. The next stop is The Military Museum of North Florida and the Clay County Port, which was once Naval Air Station Green Cove Springs, home to the US Nay Mothball FLeet.
