In Fall 2009 Virginia Tech graduate students from planning, public administration and forestry departments studied opportunities for green business development in rural Floyd County, VA. This case study included an analysis of Floyd County's assets and a preliminary assessment of the feasibility of specific sustainable business and industry opportunities. The work was a part of the Economic Development Studio @ Virginia Tech - and the students produced the study for leaders of Sustain Floyd, a community based non-profit organization dedicated to the sustainable development of Floyd County, a rural county off the Blue Ridge Parkway in the New River Valley. This webinar will review the findings of the Sustain Floyd study and explore ways to evaluate the sustainable business opportunities in rural communities around the nation.
