The objective of the Title VI: Non-Discrimination and Environmental Justice panel is to educate planners about the interconnection between the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and various areas of planning, such as the development of the long range transportation plan and planning for social equity. The implication of the law will be review from a historical perspective as well as an assessment of how the Federal Highway Administration monitors the Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPO) and the State Department of Transportation's implementation and enforcement of Title VI. The MPO representatives will discuss how the organization includes the needs of minority groups and limited English proficiency individuals into the planning process and how it complies with the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Other learning objectives include learning about the origins of the Act and how the MPOs use Title VI and Environmental Justice in the prioritization of its projects for inclusion in the Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP).
