This free webinar by 1000 Friends of Florida focuses on the new Sustainable Communities Calculator developed for the Capital Region Transportation Planning Organization. The Calculator will assist with determining the future costs of maintaining transportation infrastructure in Tallahassee-Leon County and adjoining Gadsden, Jefferson and Wakulla Counties. Recently completed, it was developed by Sprinkle Consulting, and is a web-based application. An outgrowth of the Regional Mobility Plan, the calculator is able to determine future fiscal impacts to the community infrastructure based on inputs about planned developments and surrounding infrastructure characteristics. In addition, the calculator is able to provide individual household impacts and cost associated with new development characteristics, community wide energy and environmental impacts and costs, and effects on the regional economy of planned development. The base version is intended for use by the general public, and a second version is designed to evaluate given situations and developments. Following the demonstration of the calculator will be a related discussion on the return on investment relationship of property taxes to financing the building and maintenance of the infrastructure.
