Overview

A panel of four speakers will provide information on the Fair Housing Act and its implications for planners. Topics to be discussed include: • Introduction to the Fair Housing Act – Fair Housing 102 • Southern Arizona Fair Housing Council's role • Affirmatively furthering fair housing • Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice • Pima County's approach to Fair Housing? • Issues or conflicts with fair housing projects • Positive examples of fair housing projects in Pima County • What local government planners need to know about the fair housing act • Examples of local governments being sued for fair housing act issues because of their zoning regulations • Avoiding pitfalls • Common issues with fair housing • Involving attorneys in fair housing issues The panel will also be asked questions for group discussion, such as: • In your opinion has the Fair Housing Act helped the target population for which it was created? • What improvements would you make to allow for easier implementation? • What improvements would you make to the Fair Housing Act? An opportunity will be provided for attendees to ask any questions that they might have.
