The theme of the mobile seminar event is “Downtown Ft. Pierce: Taking Advantage of Community Assets.” The program is designed to focus on the ongoing efforts the City of Fort Pierce has undertaken to transform the city and use the available assets to their fullest. Like most communities in southeast Florida, Fort Pierce has enjoyed many redevelopment successes but also still faces many challenges. This event is an opportunity for Treasure Coast Section planners to learn about one of Florida’s oldest waterfront communities, including an initial discussion of the history of Fort Pierce, the efforts of the award winning Main Street Program, the upcoming important future projects envisioned by the City and finally an overview of the cutting edge marina project that is underway. Mobile discussions will include a stop in the Edgartown neighborhood and learning about the City’s form-based code project, followed by a visit to the Sunrise Theatre and a discussion of the importance of the redevelopment of the Sunrise to the cultural and economic foundation of downtown. The seminar will continue with a short visit of the waterfront area to discuss additional ongoing redevelopment of areas near the Renaissance building, library, waterfront park and the new marina project.
