The City of Delray Beach in partnership with the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council, Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency, Treasure Coast Section of the Florida American Planning Association, Florida Atlantic University School of Urban and Regional Planning, Palm Beach County Planning Congress, Inc., Abacoa Partnership For Community, and Delray Beach Downtown Development Authority has initiated a public education lecture series for planners, residents and visitors of the Region. The series is intended to focus on town planning, urban design, historic preservation, and the changing demographic and market trends that will affect and influence the long-term health and redevelopment of cities. This public education lecture series will showcase six distinguished speakers. The series is scheduled from December 2013 through May 2014. The fifth program will feature Dr. Shoup who is the world’s foremost expert on parking values and management strategies, and a leading advisor to towns and cities across the country and internationally on solving “parking problems.” His presentation will include a detailed analysis of the market value and the market-rate cost of parking spaces and the land they occupy. The presentation will identify parking management strategies that can help cities and towns manage and organize their existing parking resources to better-serve the residential and nonresidential demand for parking. The presentation will examine the revenue generation potential of parking spaces and how cities and towns can capitalize on their parking infrastructure as a revenue source to finance city maintenance and future redevelopment needs. Off and on-street parking ratios and shard parking for residential and commercial uses will also be examined.
