Zombie subdivisions are distressed subdivisions that were begun but left unfinished and known to some as the "living dead of the real estate market". At the turn of the real estate market and still to this day many Western communities are plagued with zombie subdivisions without much guidance on how to address these blighted areas. This webinar will address the issues related to zombie subdivisions with some guidance, through case studies, for how to solve the issue. Don Elliott, the Director of Clarion Associates will provide an overview, including a legal and policy framework on zombie subdivisions and reshaping development patterns in Western communities. Anna Trentadue, the Program Director for the Valley Advocates for Responsible Development (VARD) -- a SCOTie partner -- will present their work and experience with zombie subdivisions in Teton County, ID. In addition, Linda Dannenberger, the Land Use and Development Director for Mesa County, CO will share their story on distressed and zombie subdivisions. Sponsored by Western Lands and Communities, the SCOTie Partner Webinar series features SCOTie's esteemed partners and case studies that relate to their work in the Intermountain West. SCOTie recruits partners that provide resources and programs that assist planners and local officials with strategies that save money, conserve resources, improve public health, respond to climate change and make communities more attractive places to live.
