The Hollywood /Fort Lauderdale Airport is undergoing a billion dollar runway expansion project. The Port Everglades Master Plan is in its second revision. Both projects will significantly add to the capacity for passengers and freight operations at both facilities. The revised Port Master Plan calls for accommodating Post Panamax ships and an intermodal train transfer facility. The expanded south runway at the airport will accommodate larger planes, increase capacity and relieve future congestion. In a dense urban area the new runway is being built over Federal Highway I. The economic development of the area depends on remaining a leading port of entry for the region. The event will include a presentation of both Master Plans and a mobile workshop to view the construction of the new runway.
