Overview

Billy Hattaway, the Florida Department of Transportation’s District One Secretary who is leading the department’s statewide initiative to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety and the implementation of the Department’s new Complete Streets Policy, will discuss how a context based “complete street” design approach will provide for pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and public transportation users of all ages and abilities and enhance accessibility, safety and public health. The first community in Florida to adopt Complete Streets guidelines is the City of Deerfield Beach, and Director of Planning and Development Services Amanda Martinez will review the process they have used to adopt and implement those guidelines. Darla Letourneau, a founder and steering committee member of BikeWalkLee will focus on the role of citizen advocacy in promoting complete street policy.
