Presenting the City of Fort Lauderdale's City’s Connecting the Blocks Program and initiatives to increase multimodal connectivity across the city. During the Fast Forward Fort Lauderdale community visioning process, one of the primary action items identified by the community was to create a connected community where the pedestrian is first. As a typical South Florida community, the streets of Fort Lauderdale have historically been designed for the vehicle first and created hazardous conditions for all users of the system. The City of Fort Lauderdale is developing a multifaceted approach to transform the city into a multimodal city where residents can safely get where they need to go by foot, bicycle, transit, and personal vehicle. The presentation will include the creating of the Connecting the Blocks Program, community driven approaches to making change, new transit projects being added to the city’s system, and how the City is developing an implementation strategy based on the Five E’s; Education, Encouragement, Engineering, Enforcement and Evaluation with partners across multiple sectors that values strategies small and large to have the greatest impact.
