Overview

This session explores how gender affects perceptions at work, leadership, achievements, etc. Session participants will participate in the following activities: 1. Take a 2-minute math test 2. Split into 4 groups to perform a specific task for 2 minutes 3. Regroup and take the math test again 4. Tally and compare scores. 5. Average the scores to determine which task was more beneficial to your score improvement. 6. Watch Ted Talk by Amy Cuddy, Social Psychologist: Your body language shapes who you are (21 minutes) Session participants will then discuss: 1. What did you learn from the activity and Ted Talk? 2. How have you experienced a challenge at work from your colleagues or clients? What strategies did you employ? Action items from the discussion include: 1. Is there a need for an official “AK Women in Planning” group? 2. Should we simply meet again next year? 3. Should we partner up for some ad hoc mentoring?
