Downtown Fort Myers is quickly being transformed by a surge of mixed-use and redevelopment projects, two hot topics in today’s planning environment. Join ULI for an exclusive tour of the vibrant and functional River District which integrates residences and businesses in a revitalized historic environment. Speakers include Linda Doggett, Elected Clerk at Lee County Clerk of Courts, will kick off the event and discuss funding and Lee County's role in the redevelopment projects. The event will then feature atrolley ride and walking tour. Destinations will include the historic Florida Repertory Theatre, the Ft. Myers River Basin and the Patio De Leon building, an example of mixed-use urban living. Highlighted speakers are Sara Garner, Development Director at Florida Repertory Theatre, Tessa LaSage, MPA, LEED AP BD+C, of the South Florida Community Foundation and a representative from Meta Group LLC, which is a driving force in green urbanism development in Southwest Florida. Attendees will learn about the Comprehensive Plan and LDC amendments required to support the redevelopment initiative, the Community Redevelopment Association's role in funding and guiding various infrastructure projects, and marketing available sites to developers and tenants. Focus will be given to low impact development principles, accommodating higher densities in the Coastal High Hazard Area, infrastructure challenges, and the economic challenges and opportunities associated with vertically integrated mixed-use development.
