Just over a year ago, Nick Falbo, a senior planner in Alta's Portland office, released a video describing what he called a protected intersection. The pitch illustrated a Dutch-inspired intersection concept that introduced a new way for American designers to think about the approach and junction of protected bike lanes at intersections. Viewed over half a million times, the video stuck a nerve, and was featured in Wired Magazine, Fast Company, Treehugger and the Washington Post blogs. Its influence has jumped from popular attention to professional consideration, with presentations at APBP, TRB and NACTO conferences. Learn about the origins of the concept, the advances it has seen over the last year, and efforts of cities around the US to be the first to put one on the ground. This event is an event taking place in Portland, but will be broadcast as a webinar, for others around the country to participate.
