The First Coast Section is beginning a year-long trek through innovative adaptive re-use projects throughout the region. Our first event will start at Engine 15's new brewery off Myrtle Avenue. We will get a tour of their new production facility and learn about all the steps needed to bring the building back on line. From there we will head over to Bold City Brewery, where the craft beer craze began in Jacksonville. The brewery is currently expanding into an adjacent building to increase production capacity. These sessions will cover the process (land use, zoning, permitting, etc.) developers/owners go through in order to reuse and adapt a historic property to its current use. In this case, the re-use is in the urban core and is an industrial and restaurant re-use. There will be discussion on using innovative re-use properties as a catalyst to urban redevelopment and the planning policy decisions that have taken place across the country to support this type of initiative.
