Overview

Ms. Diana Alarcon, Director of Transportation and Mobility for the City of Fort Lauderdale will speak about the City's Connecting the Blocks Program, focusing on key projects that best achieve Smart Growth principles. Projects include the Wave Streetcar, Downtown Mobility Hub and efforts to transform the Uptown Area to a walkable, vibrant, transit hub. Ms. Alarcon will also share information on the City's latest priority, which is the development of the City's pedestrian and bicycle safety, Vision Zero, which addresses the five E's of safer streets for Fort Lauderdale: engineering, education, enforcement, encouragement and evaluation. Vision Zero is an international movement where communities are adopting inspirational goals of zero facilities in order to implement strong policies and programs that result in meaningful results in the reduction of pedestrian and bicycle injuries and fatalities. Lastly, another priority of the City is to integrate sustainability and resiliency to the impact of climate change. Ms. Alarcon will provide information on how the City is organizing itself to make a difference in these areas.
