This half day symposium will focus on economic development efforts, including diversification of local economies, local and state government policy changes to attract new businesses, and the role of both the private and public sectors in economic growth. The event will feature a series of panels to cover each area of this diverse topic. Planners will be educated regarding emerging economic drivers from a nationa, state and regional standpoint, such as international airports, inland ports, research "R&D" uses that grow from educational institutions, and the emerging veterans care industries. The event will also feature speakers from across local and state governments, including administrators, planning directors, and economic development directors to present on best practices for encouraging new development, streamlining codes and processes, and incentives to sparking redevelopment and new development alike. The event will also feature private sector presenters, discussing changes in the development industry, market demand, demographics, etc. that affect their strategy in the "new economy".
