This seminar will familiarize land planners with FEMA's flood mapping efforts and recent developemnts. Land planners will learn about the national flood insurance progarm and the endangered species act. There are some federal activities affecting floodplains such as the Status of Implementation of the Executive Order 13690. Land planners need to know about these federal activities and how they will impact state and city projects they are working on. This seminar will also cover the states respones to changes at the federal level concerning climate change, critical area ordinance updates and shorelines. Planners in Washington often work planning projects that encompass shorlines. Planners will also learn local approaches to flood protection and floodplain development. They will gain understanding of current projects that can help them on future projects with similar circumstances.
