Overview

The regulation of group homes present a difficult subject matter for communities. The need is apparent, but the legal and policy issues are complex. Now is your chance to attend a workshop to obtain insight regarding how to manage and regulate group homes. Attendees will learn about the strategies and regulations that various jurisdictions use to manage group homes (including sober living homes) and how the Fair Housing Act is being met (reasonable accommodation). Panel members from Arizona and California will provide a variety of perspectives. The diverse panel includes Jeff Taylor, with the Salvation Army, who will share information and insight regarding addiction and its rising prominence as a chronic disease, why sober living houses are important to recovery, and what is important to consider when creating regulations.

Panel:

Flinn Fagg,Director  Planning Services, City of Palm Springs, CA
George Worley, Planning Manager, City of Prescott
Gordon Sheffield, AICP, CNUa, Zoning/Civil Hearing Administrator, City of Mesa
David Dela Torre, Principal Planner, City of Chandler
