Overview

This session will focus on everyday ethical issues for both public and private sector planners.  First, participants will receive a refresher from a land use attorney on the AICP Code of Ethics and Professional Rules of Conduct, including the procedural aspects of the Code. Next, participants will learn about ethical scenarios provided in the national case study and relate them to situations that our local APA planners have encountered. The main portion of the session will focus on how to identify and manage ethical situations. The scenarios explore a range of ethical challenges, including private-public sector relationships, governing body politics, and community-developer relationships. The panel members will provide their perspectives on these ethical challenges. Lastly, the audience will engage in an interactive open discussion of each scenario.
