Overview

The workshop is hosted by the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact and is part of a series of Regional Climate Action Plan workshops (this is #10).  This workshop will review the recently updated sea level rise projections for southeast Florida.  Participants will learn the overall impacts of SLR as it relates to local governments, the science behind the projections, anticipated timeslines and impacts, how local governments are already planning for adaptation and from consultants on lessons learned.

How sea level rise projections are germane to short and long term planning in southeast Florida for infrastructure, building, risk and emergency management, and finance and budgets for local governments

Senate Bill 1094, enacted in 2015, now requires local governments to address future flood risk from events such as storm surge and sea level rise in their Comprehensive Plans. One year into effect, how do local governments develop goals, objectives and policies to address these new requirements.

Discussion on how to integrate SLR projections into comp plans, RFP languageand acknowledging changes in our understanding of SLR and climate related hazards, and adapting lessons learned to inform future policies and decision making with a focus on action today.
