Overview

This customized Municipal Redevelopment course provides an examination of the myriad of roles of municipal government in facilitating redevelopment and the extensive array of economic development tools available to municipalities. Many times these tools are not fully understood or utilized to promote economic growth and development.  This course will explore these different development strategies and discuss tools used to stimulate new investment, economic development and sustainable communities. Topics will include; Understanding the basics of Redevelopment through examination of the New Jersey Redevelopment and Housing Law; Defining Gentrification and delving into the economic and demographic shifts as well as the psychological impacts; and providing an overview of Tax Abatements, Redevelopment Area Bonds (RAB), how they are used and looking at models that work.
