Overview

This walking tour highlighted current development projects occurring in the downtown core, discussing various historic preservation and design issues and the City’s processes for development.

The tour started at the Pier, which was recently demolished and went through a unique process involving the public to select the new design. Then the group walked westward through the downtown core discussing projects along the way such as the “First Block St. Pete” redevelopment proposal and the limitations as well as incentives for development in the downtown district. The tour continued westward along Central Avenue through the 500- and 600-block revitalization, with discussion regarding the utilization of block grants for the resurgent 600-block Arts District.
