The topic for this event was fleet farming and the planning focus was bringing sustainable healthy food sources to communities. Fleet farming was featured in Planning January 2017. Fleet farming involves food gardens in a group of front yards that are maintained by volunteers and the harvest goes to local restaurants and markets within a bicycle ride distance. Melissa described how fleet farming works in Orlando and Oakland and the carbon footprint reduction as a result of fleet farming. Melissa then laid out the plan for bringing fleet farming to Jacksonville. Compliance with zoning codes and coordinated with local organizations such as RAP were discussed.
