BAPA members will attend a tour of the Brightline Passenger Rail Station located in Downtown Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Representatives, including Jim Hetzel, City of Fort Lauderdale’s Case Planner for the project, David Pendergast, Project Manager of Design and Construction for Brightline, and Ali Soule, Director of Public Affairs for Brightline, directly related to the project will provide insight regarding a range of topics. Attendees will learn about the permitting and development review process for a passenger rail station, the economics behind making Brightline’s approach to passenger rail profitable, the different approaches to transit-oriented development at each of the three stations, how the City worked with Brightline in order to better promote connectivity with adjacent neighborhoods including planned improvements, how the Brightline intercity rail system will interact with the planned Tri-Rail Coastal Link commuter rail system, Quiet Zone intersection design, design of station secured and non-secured areas, and proposed retail tenants at the station such as bike and car sharing and “grab and go” coffee shop concepts.
