Overview

This event begins a series of workshops on the Urban Core Redevelopment in Jacksonville. There are three urban core districts that will be focused on, each with an overlay zone. However, each overlay has vastly different purposed and provisions.

The first workshop will discuss ethical principles in planning decisions that involve a conflict of values to overcome blight or to expand housing opportunities for the homeless and disabled. A major objective of the Springfield overlay is to disperse service based and residential treatment facilities more widely across Jacksonville in order to make the area more attractive for new development.  For the Springfield workshop, we are intending to explore the ethical dilemma that this issue presents (i.e. between expanding housing opportunities vs overcoming blight).
