Overview

The provision of affordable housing within our communities continues to be of critical importance, particularly with the rising cost of housing.  Montgomery County’s Department of Housing and Community Affairs strives to increase the supply of quality affordable housing opportunities in the County and has developed innovative tools to achieve this goal.  This session introduces planners to the County’s moderately priced dwelling unit (MPDU) program, which is believed to be the nation’s first inclusionary zoning law that gave a density bonus allowance to buildings for providing affordable housing.  The session includes an expert panel which will examine innovative approaches and tools that will provide more affordable housing options for county residents in the future.
