Join us for the next book club event, a lively discussion of Streetfight by Janette Sadik-Kahn, on Tuesday, May 23, starting at 6:30. Light snacks and beverages will be provided.
Please read the book, and come ready to discuss how we can reshape and repurpose the 20-25% of our cities land area that are our public rights-of-way, with a focus on how to create stronger community and economic vitality by making the streets safer for everyone, especially for those walking, biking, and riding transit.
A guide for our discussion is below. A TedTalk video by the author is available here.
* What did you enjoy reading about in this book? Where there any topics or discussion points you felt could have been discussed in greater detail? Was anything missing?
* The book's subtitle is "Handbook for an Urban Revolution." Did the book provide enough of a "blueprint" for someone to initiate a campaign for complete streets or other similar programs? Does the book provide enough context for effective action by planners or engineers? What about for a citizen or community group?
* What chapter or portion of the narrative was the most compelling or useful to you, and why?
* How has this book changed your views about what's possible in placemaking and/or street design? What resources referenced in the book did you find the most compelling or useful? Would you recommend this book?
