Overview

The APA San Diego Awards Walking Tour will guide participants on a tour of the Convoy District of the City of San Diego, with key stops within the Asian-themed area of Kearny Mesa. The Convoy District has established businesses and emerging entrepreneurs along with long-time patrons and new visitors seeking a unique experience. The 1.5-hour tour will consider opportunity areas and ask how cultural assets can contribute to placemaking. Representatives from the Convoy District, City, and technical experts will share their needs and vision and speakers will cover how improved connectivity within the physical layout can define and unify the district. Participants will be guided through a tour to redesign corridors and public spaces to work better for people and strengthen linkages to enhance social connections and accelerate revitalization. The tour is intended to identify changes to bring out the cultural identity and create gathering places within the community.

This tour is a pre-event to the annual APA San Diego Awards Program, which is geared to provide professional training for AICP members who plan to attend the awards event. The APA San Diego Annual Awards is a night of celebrating forward-thinking, innovative, and impactful planning projects and individuals. The 2017 APA San Diego Awards Ceremony will recognize projects and people that exemplify the best of the planning profession in the San Diego region.
