Overview

12:30-1:30, SPUR Urban Center, 654 Mission St., San Francisco.

Kristine will be providing an overview of the Air District’s hallmark Spare the Air Program. Implemented over 25 years ago, the Spare the Air program provides a dual public service: It warns Bay Area residents when air quality is expected to be unhealthy and encourages them to take direct and personal action to reduce air pollution. Kristine’s presentation will cover both the summer and winter programs, touching on the health effects of ozone and particulate matter, Spare the Air forecasting methodology, the Air District’s past and current Spare the Air advertising campaigns and the agency’s game-changing wood-burning regulation. Through advertising, media relations, social media, the Employer Program and other means, the Spare the Air Program currently operates as a cutting-edge and comprehensive campaign, one that has successfully integrated itself into the fabric of daily life of the Bay Area, increasing air quality awareness and improving the quality of life for all of us who live in the region.
