Overview

The event focuses on street, streetscape, and road diet changes as a means to promote walkability, foster local businesses, enhance neighborhoods, and promote downtown redevelopment. Planners will learn different techniques and tools for street changes to improve walkability in a downtown grid system. In addition to walkability, these tools will demonstrate how street changes can have positive impacts on vehicular traffic to reduce speeding while maintaining traffic flow and how the changes can positively impact downtown businesses with slower traffic, increased pedestrian activity,  and increased exposure. Finally, the session will discuss a major road diet that was implemented in New Albany and explain the how, why, and what of deciding to use a road diet and its impacts.
