This year, the State of California adopted new legislation (SB 1069 and AB 2299) related to accessory dwelling units (ADU). The intent of the legislation is to reduce barriers to the development of ADUs, such as requiring ministerial approval for ADUs and reducing parking standards. In this program jointly sponsored by the International Code Council Orange Empire Chapter (ICC-OEC) and APA Orange Section, an overview of the legislation will be presented by Paul McDougall, Housing Policy Manager with HCD. Mr. McDougall will discuss the new requirements for cities with respect to ADUs and implications for both planning departments and building code officials. Attendees will also gain valuable insights into the legislation to assist planners in amending their local zoning ordinances.
