Overview

Apalachicola Riverkeepers' boat tour of the Apalachicola estuary and river offers participants an opportunity to hear about this unique Apalachicola ecosystem, to learn about the on-going interstate water resources litigation, and to view the physical features of the bay.  Veteran Apalachicola Riverkeeper, Dan Tonsmeire, and staff will provide participants first hand information about the conditions of the existing ecosystem including the organisms inhabiting the bay. The group will also discuss the potential impacts from restriction of water to the bay and the potential implications of litigation between Alabama, Florida and Georgia. Changing enviromental and economic impacts including climate change and shifts in bay product harvests will also be part of the discussion.

Before or after the tour, participants are invited to participate in a walking tour of Apalachicola, guided by local host or other members of the Capital Area Section.
