The Resilient by Design | Bay Area Challenge was a year-long design challenge to bring together local residents, community organizations, public officials and local, national, and international experts to develop innovative solutions that will strengthen our region’s resilience to sea level rise, severe storms, flooding, and earthquakes. Experts from around the world worked with nine communities around the Bay Area to figure out how to proactively reimagine a more resilient Bay Area. The Challenge wrapped up in May 2018 with a regional summit and nine inspiring proposals. But what comes next? How do we proactively finance resilience projects before a disaster and what should developers keep in mind when developing on the waterfront?
Join APA CA Northern and ULI SF’s Sustainability Committee for this exciting discussion on how these projects, or elements of them, can actually be implemented in real life. Hear from Resilient by Design Team, The All Bay Collective, about their proposal and financing strategy for a more resilient future for the San Leandro Bay. Resilient by Design Executive Board Member, Kiran Jain, Chief Operating Officer for Neighborly and Resilient by Design Research Advisor Lindy Lowe, Resilience Director for the Port of San Francisco will join in the conversation to talk about innovative financing and challenges to successful resilient waterfront development.
