Municipal boards & commissions have a number of responsibilities, decisions to make, and regulations to follow. Board liaisons (including planners, city secretaries, building officials, and others) rarely have the opportunity to network and obtain training on requirements for managing these groups. This session will include:

  • Importance of citizen participation
  • Ex parte communication
  • Insights on finding volunteers
  • Ethical guidelines
  • Preparing boards & commissions for complex issues
  • Staff reports
  • Agenda preparation
  • Tips for success
  • Local Government Code requirements
  • Presentation skills

A panel of speakers including experienced staff liaisons and board members will provide insights from a variety of perspectives. Following the event will be a Northwest Texas Section (of the American Planning Association) business meeting. Non-members are welcome to attend.
