When weak soils are encountered near the surface of a project site, or when the loads of the infrastructure require support that is stronger than what is present at the in-situ soils, professionals within the A/E/C industry rely on the use of deep foundations. Deep foundations allow the construction of our most audacious projects.  In this course, engineers, architects, planners, contractors and design professionals will learn different applications and methods for the development of deep foundations, which can be used to support our most critical infrastructure to the benefit of our communities.


Based on subsurface conditions, select the use of an adequate foundation pile system to preserve the property.

Describe the three main steps in the design-construction process for driven pile design, which focus on the safe design of foundations to preserve the welfare of the public.

Develop an evaluation method for driven piles, based on whether they are to be placed in either cohesive or cohesionless soils.

Identify at least two advantages of drilled shafts that can be used to maintain appropriate safety and reliability for all classes of structures.
