Never before has there been such a need for planning and design professionals to anticipate future trends, propose solutions, and help communities and decision makers make the wisest, most well-informed choices possible. A new design approach, one rooted in the history of design practice and enabled by rapid advances in technology, has emerged to meet this need. The approach, called geodesign, provides the framework and tools needed to explore issues from a transdisciplinary perspective and to resolve conflicts between differing points of view.

Confirmed SpeakerDevin is a Principal and Cofounder of Houseal Lavigne Associates with special expertise in urban design, land use and site planning, illustration and development visualization, web development and geographic information systems. Devin is recognized as a leader in the planning profession for his illustrations, graphics and for his ability to communicate planning and development concepts clearly and concisely. Devin’s contribution to his firm’s graphics and plans has helped distinguish Houseal Lavigne’s body of work and garnered national attention and recognition. Devin has managed, directed, authored, and contributed to numerous plans throughout the country, and has received multiple awards for these efforts. Devin is an adjunct lecturer at the University of Illinois, where he teaches an urban design studio. Devin is also a SketchUp Visiting Professional (VPP) – one of twenty recognized experts available to lecture about the use of SketchUp. Devin received his Bachelor’ degree from the School of Urban and Regional Planning at Ryerson Polytechnic University in Toronto, Ontario. Prior to cofounding Houseal Lavigne Associates, Devin was the Senior Planning Manager for URS Corporation and Trkla, Pettigrew, Allen and Payne (TPAP).

Confirmed SpeakerBrooks Patrick is an Account Executive and team lead for Geodesign Markets at Esri helping individuals, teams, and organizations take advantage of 3D GIS and the power of procedural modeling for Urban Planning, Architecture, Game Development, and Entertainment. Brooks is also a Landscape Architect and a frequent presenter at international conferences and workshops. As part of a team working with Geodesign, he designs solutions able to simulate the impacts of scenario planning, enabling decision makers to meet or exceed project goals related to sustainability and storytelling. He is responsible for further services and consulting in training, custom CGA rule development, and advanced 3D GIS for long range planning.
